Senaste Poplistan vanns ju av The Happy Fits med den fina sången "Grow Back".
Jag kontaktade dem på deras Facebooksida och undrade om de kunde berätta något
om deras vinnarlåt och de var vänliga att svara omgående. Så kul!
Jag tyckte ju själv att "Grow Back" påminde en hel del om Alt-J, vilket dem
också bekräftade. Här är deras svar:
Hey Ingemar.
Thank you so much for having us on your blog. Grow Back was inspired
by Brittany Howard’s squel in the beginning of Alabama Shakes’ “Don’t Wanna Fight”.
After months of obsession over Alabama Shakes I wanted to write powerful music
that hit hard just like their albums Sound & Color and Boys & Girls. I couldn’t think
of any subject material that would make us sound too contrived since I wanted the
song to sound grand, so I wrote my own story about a woman called Mrs. Mae
who is minutes away from being lobotomized. Her only way to break free is a pair
of scissors she’s snuck away in her dress. Alt-J was definitely an influence for
the beginning of the song since they love to sing riffs off the blues scale and that’s
exactly what we do until we get to the chorus.
Also its an honor to be on a list with Parquet Courts! Wide awake is an
amazing album
.We hope to get to Sweden in a few years! Would love to have a talk about
music over a few beers
