Essex Green |
Då kör vi en ny omgång mitt i semestertider. Jag är nöjd över att det
ändå var fyra av er jurymedlemmar som kunder rösta sist. Ni kommer att
få tre veckor på er denna omgång också med dessa tio bidrag.
1 Essex Green (US) return
today with a new single, “Sloane Ranger,” and news of a
fourth album, Hardly Electronic.
It’s their first new music since 2006’s Cannibal
Sea. For those of us who’ve waited 12 years for to hear
from Jeff Baron, Chris Ziter, and Sasha Bell again, “Sloane Ranger”
will more than fit the bill: the sunny ’60s-inspired
melodies, perfectly sloppy rhythm guitar, singalong harmonies, and
buoyant, handclap-friendly beat are all back too. SPIN
2 Still
Corners (US/UK) Underrated synth dark-pop duo Still Corners have announced a new
album, Slow Air, to be released August 17 via the band’s own
Wrecking Light label. Alongside the announcement they’ve released a
typically sighing, atmospheric advance single, “Black Lagoon,” and announced a
North American tour that finds them trekking across the U.S. (plus Toronto
and Vancouver) this fall. In a press release, Still Corners’ Tessa Murray and
Greg Hughes said the new album was written and recorded within just three
months, in and around Austin, Texas. The title Slow Air was
inspired by the region’s stultifying ambient heat. SPIN
3 Marissa
Nadler (US) Marissa Nadler begins “For My
Crimes,” the title track of her latest album, with the assumption of innocence.
Over a guitar line so solemn it sounds like a frown, the Boston
singer-songwriter takes on the role of the soft-voiced victim, bound by her
captors at the wrists and led blindly into an unknowable abyss. She fantasizes
about someone she used to know, how they once fit together and never will
again. But then Nadler confesses her crimes, admitting to lies and misdeeds so
severe, she likens herself to a snake, passing into punishment “serpentine.” Pitchfork
4 O.R.B. (Au) Australian
psych-rockers O.R.B go into interstellar overdrive
with the fuzzed-out cosmic title track to their forthcoming album Space Between The Planets,
their third record in two years. Harnessing the deeply psychedelic vibes
that seems to have taken hold of Geelong's water supply, the ripper of a single
sets out to blast brains into another dimension and succeeds admirably.Undertheradar
5 Doug Tuttle (US) The music of Doug Tuttle is the sound of the outside. Expansive and
ambitious, it has an ability to be introspective while never losing a
fully-aware sense of the enormity around us. So it’s a bit appropriate the
Massachusetts songwriter returns today, on this summer solstice (June 21), with
a mindful new track titled “Twilight.” Vanyaland
6 Great Lake
Swimmers (CAN) "Alone But Not
Alone" (Nettwerk): The Toronto folk-rockers will release a new album, The Waves, The Wake on Aug. 17.
One its tracks, "Alone But Not Alone," has just come out as a
single. Singer/songwriter, Tony Dekker, describes the song this way: "It
is a straighter shooter than some of the other tracks on the new album, with a
little more of a familiar 12-string jangle, and it’s a bridge back across our
fifteen-year, seven-album catalogue. We set out to make a breezy, 1960’s AM
radio-inspired kind of thing, with a few twists and turns, because it seemed to
be what the song was asking for, in the midst of experimenting with sounds for
some of the other new songs. Fyimusicnews
7 Johnny Marr (UK) has revealed that there’s a song on his upcoming new album that
reminds him of The Smiths‘ classic ‘There Is
A Light That Never Goes Out’ – crossed with Patti
Smith. Speaking in the new issue of Uncut
Magazine, the guitar legend revealed all about his upcoming third album ‘Call
The Comet’ when he opened about the sound of key track ‘Hi Hello’. UNCUT
8 The Charlatans (UK) new EP 'Totally Eclipsing. the title track is online
now and it's got a hazy summer feel, matching The Zombies to the Byrds in their
own effervescent style.Supreme jangle-pop from one of the country's most-loved
groups. Clashmusic
9 Melody’s Echo Chamber (FR) French singer-songwriter Melody
Prochet’s self-titled debut – a collection of radiant psychedelia produced by her then-boyfriend,
Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker – was released almost six years ago. In 2014, she
began trailing its follow-up. Only now, however, has Bon Voyage actually
arrived. Sung in a mixture of English, French and Swedish, tracks tend to be
loose and freeform as they slope between tempos and styles: opener Cross My
Heart begins by aping Jefferson Airplane before segueing into a fidgety
breakbeat; The Guardian
10 How To Dress Well (US) The last time we really heard new solo music from the
alt R&B songwriter was 2016’s Care LP. Now, Tom Krell
is finally back with new HTDW music, as he’s shared a new two-song
EP/single, The first track on the release is actually almost four songs in
and of itself. The seven-minute suite cuts from ambient electronics to
grooving pop to glitchy chaos. Land of the Overflowing
