Vecka 36-37

Och så tillbaka till de vanliga rutinerna igen. Tio låtar igen och ni röstar 1 - 6 poäng på
varje låt. Lustigt nog är alla låtarna denna gång från USA. En ren tillfällighet. Men däremot
är det väldigt många olika musikgenrer - det kommer ni att märka, allt from mjuka Annie
Keating till tunga progressiva Tool (bilderna nedan).

1 The Oh Sees  (US) On their absorbing and endearing new double album, Face Stabber, John Dwyer's long-running psych-rock institution verges on self-indulgence for the first time. At their best, Oh Sees songs evoke matter in flux. Their music hints at lurking violence, a lazy simmer always threatening to boil over.Pitchfork

2 Anne Keating (US) the bluesy, New Orleans tinged music of ‘Mother of Exile’ that allows the listener to take in her bluesy voice which sits in a comfortable place without really powering through the songs, which is a shame but her songs rely on musicality and talent rather than trying to hit the high notes, but it does make me wonder if there is more to this singer than is on show here. /dancingaboutarchitecture
A wise mix of Lucinda Williams songwriting, Gillia Welch guitar and a vocal of her own … a cross beyween Willie Nelson and John Prine and you don’t get any better than that.     The VilageVoice

3 Bleached (US) New album Don’t you think you’ve had enough. Bleached are an American punk rock and pop punk band consisting of sisters Jennifer Clavin and Jessica Clavin, formerly of Mika Miko. The band plays a style of punk rock, pop punk, garage rock, garage punk, rock and roll, noise pop and indie rock. Bleached was established in Los Angeles, California in 2011. Wiki

4 Fruit Bats  (US) Who says nostalgia ain’t what it used to be? It’s back and better than ever, as they say, in Fruit Bats’ terrific eighth album, “Gold Past Life,” which, as the title would suggest, has a lot to say about the bittersweet pull of memories of simpler and easier times. Nearly every song is its own veritable boat against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past … in a sprightly indie-pop kind of way. It would not be backwards at all of you to pick it up.  Variety

5 Flower Graves (US) take the normal wash of guitar pedals and garage rock touches and throw them out in favor of a more organic sound. Drawing their name from a Human Beinz song, and their sound feels like you took the blue pill and stayed in a dream like neverland where sixties pop culture and free love reign supreme. Wallflowerrecords

6 Jay Som (US) Melina Duterte’s second album as Jay Som sounds exploratory and playful, like a jam session among friends that’s just hit its stride. While Anak Ko—which means “my child” in Tagalog—is still very much a self-made release as Duterte recorded and produced the record herself . Pitchfork

7 Whitney (US) Like their debut, Light Upon the LakeForever… tackles themes of wonderment and reflection, focusing most on the relationships we choose to invest ourselves in. The project, led by vocalist/drummer Julien Ehrlich and guitarist Max Kakacek have expanded their vision accordingly, demonstrating in detail why their work remains so symbolic. Forever… harnesses a welcomed continuation from where they left off: ten promising, yet all-too-brief, soft rock tracks, proving the duo remain well beyond their years as a prospering act. 8 Ceremony (US) is an American punk rock band from Rohnert Park, California. On 2015’If The L-Shaped Man was Ceremony‘s first attempt to channel not only the spirit, but also the sound of their idols—the band takes their name from one of Ian Curtis’ final songs—then In the Spirit World Now is their first foray into New Order territory. The guitars remain, but new wave synthesizers take center stage.s The L-Shaped Man, they indulged explicit Joy Division hero worship. Pitchfork

9 Rodney Crowell (US) “I’ve tried hard to leave here but never did could,” Rodney Crowell sings in “Deep in the Heart of Uncertain Texas,” a shuffling, picturesque highlight from his latest LP Texas, a musical tribute to the Houston-born singer-songwriter’s roots. Willie Nelson, Ronnie Dunn, and Lee Ann Womack, a trio of fellow Lone Star State luminaries, join Crowell on the song’s chorus, a highlight of the new album. Rolling Stone

10 Tool (US) After a 13-year layoff, the art-damaged metal of Maynard James Keenan and company is back, as challenging and satisfying as ever. “Pneuma,” with its strummed/slashed guitars and bone-rattled rhythms, has a similarly foreign and crepuscular melody, here with a set of lyrics grounded in how the spirit is “bound to this flesh” but “bound to reach out and beyond this flesh.” The steady majesty of this song is something to behold, a torrid tone akin to the ritualistic reach of David Bowie’s “Lazarus,” albeit without the creeping intensity of death’s door at hand. 1. 1 Thee Oh Sees, 4p Älskar detta galna band. Såg dem på Way Out West 2017.

8 Ceremony 3p Påminner om Postpunk a la New Order, Joy Division, Wire etc, men ledsnat lite på låten.

9 Rodney Crowell mm 4p Fin country. T.o.m.
