1 Israel Nash (US) Recorded at Nash's Texas ranch with his regular four piece touring band, the richly textured yet never less than thoroughly organic album (Nash's fourth) aims to rekindle a point at the very early 70's when heartfelt, substantial songwriting met organic recording techniques that favoured spontaneity over excess finesse. TLOBF

2 Natalie Prass (US) is an American singer-songwriter from Richmond, VirginiaFaced with the unexpected, Prass evolved, trading inward-facing confessionalism for outward-facing perseverance and releasing one of 2018’s minor masterpieces in the process. Plus, you can most certainly dance to it. COS

3 Tracyanne & Danny (SCO) Five years after Camera Obscura’s last album, Tracyanne Campbell returns with a new musical partner and a more mannered, slightly cautious sound, but her voice is as singular as ever. Pitchfork

4 Lisa Mychols (US) For an artist without a great many credits to her name, Lisa Mychols made an impressive splash on the Los Angeles pop underground of the 1990s, especially with her band the Masticators. Once the new millennium had dawned and that vibrant musical community had begun to emerge aboveground, Mychols had developed into one of its most accomplished songwriters, taking an obsession with the 1960s and 1970s AM dial and updating the sound for a new generation of pop/rock addicts. AllMusic

5 Cavern of Anti-Matters (UK) is the new project of Stereolab founder Tim Gane. The songs here cover ground from techno to krautrock to electro and beyond. The unifying element is the loose, jammy feeling to everything: It's easy to imagine these pieces being worked out in the studio in just one or two takes, even with their many moving pieces. Pitchfork

6 Nine Inch Nails (US) Completing the three EP/album cycle which began with 2016’s ‘Not The Actual Events’, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross return with their most daring and perhaps polarising contribution to the set. ‘Bad Witch’ sees Reznor look both backwards and forwards to create a heady mix of anxious riffs, ravey beats and... jazz. Sharing much DNA with Bowie’s ‘Blackstar’ and even ‘Earthling’, NIN’s ninth album is an erratic beast, overdriven stompers like the opening ‘Shit Mirror’ followed by a dark slab of drum 'n' bass titled ‘Ahead Of Ourselves’. It’s jarring, but that’s the whole point. Clash Music

7 Gwenifer Raymond (UK, Wales) has a PhD in astrophysics, lives in Brighton and designs video games for a living. No ordinary human, she also has mercury in her fingertips. Having discovered the guitar aged eight, when her mother gave her a cassette of Nirvana’s Nevermind, Raymond traced the idols of her idols back to the Delta blues, and then sideways into this folk form. Her immersive debut album pays tribute to the Delta and Appalachia at the same time, on the banjo workouts Bleeding Finger Blues and Idumea, and raises a battered hat to the godfather of the primitive scene on Requiem for John Fahey. The Guardian

8 Gruff Rhys (UK) With No Profit in Pain, I want to remind the nation that we can no longer take a free health service for granted. There’s loads of swearing in it. Privatisation is creeping in and it will be a death knell for the NHS if we are not vigilant. As a devolved issue in Wales, and as an idea that was born here, the idea of a free health service for all serves as a beacon of what we can achieve as a nation and is something we must pass on intact to future generations. The Guardian/Gruff Rhys

9 Jim James (US) Uniform Distortion is the third solo release from James, not counting the cover albums. As the album comes to a close, its success lies in the honesty and purity that went into its creation. In contrast to his previous release, Uniform Distortion isn’t wrapped in a web of psychedelia, but rather in a blanket of solace.  COS

10 Wooden Shjips (US) V. is their first album in five years, and it comes after a period where frontman Ripley Johnson has stayed a whole lot more busy with his (very good) drone-pop side project Moon Duo. But there is no rust on V. It sounds like the work of a band whose members have been spending hours jamming together every weekend for the past few years — not practicing, but just continuing to feel each other out, playing for fun. There’s a sort of confidence to their sound on the new album that borders on swagger. It’s not beat-driven music, exactly, and it’s sure not danceable, but there’s a syncopated swing in the way they play that strikes me as being very rare in an indie rock world where rhythm sections so often sound so brittle. They are feeling it on some deep level here, and it just sounds gorgeous. Stereogum

2 Natalie Prass 4p Hon sjunger väldigt bra, Natalie!

3 Tracyanne & Danny 5p Camera Obscuratjejen tillbaka i denna duo.

Inget nytt sound precis, men fungerar bra.

    Natalie Prass – 6

    Traceyanne & Danny – 6
    Pur poplykke!

    Cavern Of Anti-Matter – 3
Instrumental synthpop med røtter i tidlig Human League/Orchestral Manoeuvers In The Dark, etc. Midt på treet.

    Lisa Mychols – 4

    Jim James – 6
Deilig, overstyrt dronerock med bena godt plantet i 70-tallet. Elsker gitarsoloen!

    Wooden Shjips – 4
    Fint, men litt kjedelig.
