Wussy spelar på sång nr 4

Då är jag, Ingemar, tillbaka igen efter Claes gästspel med enbart svenska akter.
Tre skandinaviska artister/band finns med här fördelade på Norge, Danmark
och Sverige.

1 Parquet Courts (US) The Brooklyn punks keep the quality high with their most fully-realised record yet. Andrew Savage doesn’t keep you waiting long for his first snarl. Just under a minute into ‘Total Football’, the taut opener on Parquet Courts’ sixth album, the meandering bassline drops away to afford Savage’s scream more space. “Are you quite done now?” NME

2 Modern Studies (SCO) Welcome Strangers, the second album by Scotland-based quartet Modern Studies, is deep and mystical, with determined and deeply affecting duets on top of delicate instrumentation, definite drums and percussion, and sweeping atmospheres dropped in for mood and reverence.  "Fast As Flows" include an intro that pushes forward unexpectedly, while still enjoyably incorporating a majestic and precisely mixed atmosphere. The instrumentation is particularly loud on "Fast As Flows", especially compared to the quieter environment presented in all the preceding album. Accordingly, the vocals are louder, and the mood is darker. Horns dramatically note shifts in direction and strings articulate a sense of the unknown. PopMatters

3 Ghost (SWE) Kalibrerat in i minsta detalj. Tobias Forge är nästan omänskligt skicklig på att styra sitt spökskepp över nya gränser samtidigt som han ständigt trollbinder betydligt fler själar än han skrämmer bort.  I huvudsak är det det morbida och mystiska som är bekant. Memento mori – kom ihåg att du är dödlig – är ett genomgående tema, med den medeltida digerdöden som huvudsaklig metafor. GAFFA

4 Wussy (US) If the world's top scientists entered a laboratory with the goal of concocting a rock band whose target audience consisted solely of nerdy rock critics, that band would probably end up sounding a lot like Wussy. The Cincinnati quintet has all the hallmarks of being a critical darling: an anachronistic devotion to the electric guitar; a warts-and-all sound redolent of 1980s and '90s indie-rock; 
Rather than push them in an Americana direction, the addition of avant-garde pedal-steel player John Erhardt to the band's lineup in 2014 has emboldened Wussy to embrace a noisier and dronier sound. Slant Magazine

5 The Happy Fits (US) This New Jersey folk trio is comprised of drummer, Luke; guitarist, Ross; and their electric cello player Calvin. The group’s sound is perhaps the most unique thing to come out of New Jersey since Snookie. Their blend of indie rock and what some would describe as “pop folk” help deliver a unique mixture of melody that many listeners haven’t heard before. KUMD

6 Jenny Hval (NO) Norwegian experimental artist Jenny Hval has a pretty good track record. Her 2015 album Apocalypse, girl explored bodies and human sexuality and gender dynamics, and we named it one of the best albums of 2015. This year she has announced her debut novel. And now she’s finally coming back with more solo music: an EP called The Long Sleep.Part of what makes Hval so great is that her music isn’t just conceptually rich — it also sounds great. Even so, new song “Spells,” the first track we’re hearing off of The Long Sleep, is surprisingly accessible. It starts with rumbling horns, pianos, strings, and saxophones before settling into a cool sophisti-pop groove, giving her a chance to show off her singing voice as the whole arrangement floats out into space. 7 OMNI (US) Atlanta’s Omni have only been around for two years or so, but in that time they’ve already released two very good full-lengths. They make post-punk that is ambitious but approachable, sneaking big musical ideas into small-sounding songs and delivering them with deceptively effortless-seeming style. SPIN

8 Half Man Half Biscuit (UK)  (bild nedan) are an English rock band, formed in 1984 in Birkenhead, Merseyside. They are known for their satirical, sardonic and sometimes surreal songs, the band comprises lead singer and guitarist Nigel Blackwell, bassist and singer Neil Crossley, drummer Carl Henry and guitarist Karl Benson. No-one cares about your creative hub so get your fuckin’ hedge cut. Well that wins album title of the year already. Now that the Fall are no longer around I'd hazard a guess that Half Man Half Biscuit are one of the few Northern English indie cults we can hang onto in these grim days. As always we just have song titles to go on at this stage but it's pretty much worth the admission price alone. Norman Records

9 Gold Connections (US) Origins is a new music feature that allows an artist to reveal the deeper inspirations for their latest track. His name may not be as familiar yet, but Will Marsh came of musical age right besides Car Seat Headrest’s Will Toledo. The two met at the College of William & Mary’s WCWM radio station when Marsh was a freshman and Toledo a sophomore.  In 2018, Marsh is finally ready to take Gold Connections to the next level — this time without the aid of Toledo. The band’s debut full-length, Popular Fiction, is set for a May 4th release via EggHunt Records. Produced by Daniel Goans, the 10-track collection introduces listeners to an artist raised on Bob Dylan and seeking a sound like a bluesy Big Star or a softer Rolling Stones.  COS

10 Palace Winter (DK) Almost a year and a half on from their debut album, Copenhagen-based duo Palace Winter are back with a new album and a massive new single. Dealing with themes of death, loss and mortality suggests that Nowadays - out 4 May - reflects a difficult period in the lives of Australian Carl Coleman and Dane Caspar Hesselager, but on lead single "Take Shelter" that heavy subject matter is transformed in grand style.
