1. Daniele Luppi & Parquet Courts (It, US) While working on a batch of songs about the alternative lifestyle scene of Milan in the 1980s, where and when he came of age, Italian composer and arranger Daniele Luppi decided he needed a working band to play his compositions and help write the words. He landed on Parquet Courts, as the band does a fine job bringing the writer's songs and vision to life on Milano. Luppi also had the bright idea to bring Karen O on board to add her vocals (and lyrics) to many of the nine songs. She brings the snappy "Talisa" to life with some snarkily sneering vocals.  AllMusic

2. Blitzen Tapper  (US) What Portland, Oregon's Blitzen Trapper does is not particularly original, but they do it damn well. Their influences are seemingly all over the place – I hear traces of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Wilco, the Band, Bob Seger. Wild and Reckless is the band´s ninth studio album. PopMatters

3. OCS (US) Just days after Thee Oh Sees released their first album under their new moniker, Oh Sees, frontman John Dwyer announced his group’s second name change of the summer. They’re back to being just OCS “Memory of a Cut Off Head” is lusher and lovelier than anything from the last incarnation of Oh Sees, almost uncannily graceful. 

4. EERA (NOR) Residing in London, UK, Anna Lena Bruland composes delicately bold lo-fi-inspired alternative rock under the alias EERA. Having released an eponymous EP in 2016, she has reemerged with the elegantly raw Reflection of Youth. The 405  BILD ovan.

5. Weird Owl (US) For a decade or so Brooklyn's Weird Owl have been carving themselves a nice little niche in the psych scene. 'Bubblegum Brainwaves' is their sixth album.  'Bubblegum Brainwaves' took a couple of listens for me to truly appreciate what the guys have done here...taking neo-psych tropes and mixing and matching with synth pop and an occasional flash of experimentation...but I came to conclusion that it is a wonderful album. Dayzofpurpleandorange

6. Whitney Rose (CAN) Listen up, Mr. Trump. If you need to be convinced that immigrants can contribute significantly to these United States—and apparently you still do—look no further than the example of singer/songwriter Whitney Rose. A Canadian expatriate who settled in Austin to find her footing in the clubs and venues of that hallowed city, she’s sharpened her skills and her mind set, making music that emulates the sounds generally associated with barrooms and honky-tonks. 7. Custard (AU) David McCormack is feeling the distance on the second LP of Custard’s second life. The defeated conclusion of “In the Grand Scheme of Things (None of This Really Matters)” gives a melancholy hue to the Brisbane band’s tragicomedy. Rolling Stone Australia

8. Absynthe Minded (BE) Initially a solo vehicle for lead vocalist Bert Ostyn, Belgian outfit Absynthe Minded later expanded to a quintet. Det finns inget mer på engelska, så jag besparar er de flamländska recensionerna.

9. Drunk on the Moon (SWE) Drunk on the Moon är ett nytt svenskt band från Stockholm. Bandets namn Drunk on the Moon kommer förstås från sången med samma titel i Tom Waits album The Heart of Saturday Night från 1974. Göran Ördell sjunger även bakom sångerskan Sofie Hellberg och har dessutom producerat debutskivan. Poplistan

10. James Holden (UK)   is an Oxford University maths graduate turned DJ, producer and synth wizard who made his name with a suitably cerebral variety of Aphex Twin-inspired rave music. In the last decade, he’s forsaken DJing to front a live band that mixes minimalism, astral jazz and the rhythmic textures of north African gnawa music. The results are often joyous. Spinning Dance overlays Alice Coltrane’s rattling percussion with shamanic drones and ecstatic, burbling flute improvisations. The Guardian
