1. The New Pornographers (CAN)  är ett kanadensiskt popband från Vancouver, bildat 1997. Gruppen framstod i början som något av en "supergrupp" då flertalet medlemmar tidigare gjort sig kända genom andra kanadensiska band. De mest framträdande medlemmarna är Carl Newman och Neko Case, som båda framgångsrikt gett ut skivor i eget namn, samt Dan Bejar, ledare för gruppen Destroyer. Bandet har varit med på Poplistan flera gånger. Detta är ett smakprov från ett nytt album.  Wikipedia

2. Jesca Hoop (US) (bild ovan) is a 42 year old American singer-songwriter and guitarist from California, who writes and performs in diverse musical styles. She has released five albums, two EPs and a collection of acoustic songs. She first attracted national attention in the early '00s, when her unusual backstory — the daughter of musical Mormons, she'd served a long stint as nanny to Tom Waits' kids. 3. Chuck Prophet (US) is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer. A Californian, Prophet first achieved notice in the American psychedelic/desert rock group Green on Red, with whom he toured and recorded in the 1980s.^[3] He has also recorded a number of solo records, and gained prominence as a musician and songwriter. “Alex Nieto” är en protestsång. “The death of Alejandro "Alex" Nieto occurred on March 21, 2014 in the Bernal Heights neighborhood of San Francisco, California. Nieto was shot by four San Francisco Police Department officers while he was eating his dinner in the park before a night shift at work. A confrontation between Nieto and another civilian led to a bystander calling 911. Nieto was wearing a taser. Police claim that Nieto pointed the taser at them. Police claimed to have believed that the taser was a firearm.The San Francisco County District Attorney's Office declined to file criminal charges against the four officers involved in the shooting. Nieto's family filed a federal civil rights lawsuit, alleging wrongful death. In March 2016, a jury cleared the four officers of all charges.  Wikipedia

4. Blackfield (UK) There is music out there, being written for every mood, every feeling. Only a few artists are able to write things that touch the soul and mean something to the listener. Only a fewer still, are able to form a connection and cement their place in the pages of history. Singer-Songwriter Steven Wilson and Israeli rock singer Aviv Geffen have constructed something that has come to mean something very deep and poignant to me. Their latest effort ‘Blackfield V’ is an exploration into many different flavors of life that are instantly relatable and equally moving. 5. Son Volt (US) is an American alternative country group, formed by Jay Farrar in 1994 after the breakup of Uncle Tupelo. Since Son Volt's 1995 debut, Trace, Jay Farrar has sometimes had trouble getting out of his own way. But on Notes of Blue, the band's eighth album, he largely sidesteps the very traits—his alternately authoritative and catatonic molasses voice, his resolute adherence to folk traditionalism, his at times clunky, esoteric lyrics—that have both defined and inhibited his work over the last two decades, resulting in some of his most direct, concise, and uptempo music in years. Slantmagazine.com

6. D.D Dumbo (AU) From the Australian Goldfields region of Victoria comes the vibrant, ambitious pop music of D.D Dumbo. Under this unusual moniker, multi-instrumentalist Oliver Hugh Perry made waves in 2013 with the release of Tropical Oceans, a beguiling and progressive EP that quickly landed him support slots alongside other pop auteurs like St. Vincent, Tune-Yards, and Tame Impala. A deal with 4AD followed and the then-Melbourne-based artist decamped back to his hometown of Castlemaine to record his debut, Utopia Defeated, in a spartan one-room shed. A pastiche of polyrhythmic percussion and deftly manipulated 12-string guitar. Allmusic

7. Timber Timbre (CAN)  the strange, often disquieting musical project of Ontario's Taylor Kirk, is back with a new album called Sincerely, Future Pollution, a brooding record heavily shaped by last year's political upheaval. The album's first single, "Sewer Blues," offers a dark take on the state of America with throbbing synths and swampy guitars. "Order of the underground, as the sewer runs clear," Kirk sings, "stretch your skin in front of me, undo every other year. Now I come for you, I come for your womb, for your vapor and your perfume. For your fog-filled rooms."  NPR.org

8. Horisont (SWE) Swedish retro rockers Horisont are back with their 5^th album About Time serving a classic rock/metalish sound with a hint of psychedelic lime. There is a lot of groove and a lot of throwback on About Time, so sit back and enjoy the ride. Morefuzz.net

9. Crystal Fairy (US) (bild nedan)The hard rock scene has never seen a supergroup like Crystal Fairy. At The Drive-In’s Omar Rodríguez-López, Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover of The Melvins, and Teri Gender Bender of Le Butcherettes have joined forces to form a true band of titans. Crystal Fairy formed after the Melvins and Le Butcherettes shared a run of tour dates together. Bender and the boys bonded over a love of Bikini Kills and movies from their childhood, while Rodríguez-López just so happened to be traveling with the bands as a documentary photographer. After the trek ended, the foursome found themselves recording in Los Angeles and later in El Paso. The results are a hard-hitting sludge metal album that somehow sounds louder than the sum of its parts. Consequence of sound

10. TheXX  (UK) Post-electoral malaise notwithstanding, the forlorn euphoria of “On Hold” also finds the xx facing down a new frontier. On 2012’s Coexist, they often sounded as though they were desperately trying to hold the drapes closed in the face of prying eyes. Emboldened by the vivid shades of Jamie xx’s In Colour, the London three-piece are bolder and more extroverted now—these shy 20-somethings who used to anguish over the meaning of imperceptible gestures confess to getting “carried away,” with Sim and Madley-Croft raising and shaping their voices from hush to self-possessed statement.  Pitchfork
