Segerintervju med Gerard Love i Lightships

Lightships vann finalen 2012 på Poplistan med "Sweetness In Her Sparks".

Poplistan: Congratulations, Gerard, for LIghtships being voted the best song 2012 on Poplistan with "Sweetness In Her Sparks"!

Gerard Love: Hi ingemar, this is cool, thanks for letting me know.
to answer your questions:
"Sweetness in her spark", for me, became a possible 'single' when i added the tremolo guitar arpeggio and the casio wah-wah. adding these elements seemed to elevate the song above most of the others on the album and made it sound quite exciting to me. the last thing i added was the flute which softened the sound in the second half and gave the impression of progress rather than repetition. i think it was the obvious 'single'. my favourite song on the LP is 'Silver and Gold', maybe because of the attempted falsetto vocal, something i'd never tried before, and the change in feel between the verse and the chorus, with the fuzz guitar line and i also really like the energy of the drums in the choruses and the big ringo drum rolls in the outro.

Poplistan: What are your plans for the nearest future?
Gerard Love: Immediate plans for me are recording a new teenage fanclub LP, starting next month, and possibly touring with The Pastels when they release their new "slow summits" LP in march/april. for Lightships, i would hope to record a new batch of songs early next year, which would (hopefully) form a new LP.

Thanks for your support!
best,
gerard

  1. Poplistans vinnare Lightships spelade tydligen på Way Out West 2012. Dessutom har Gerard Love en egen blogg. Kan vara värd att följa http://lightships.tumblr.com/

  2. Hej Hampus. Ja, det är kul att bloggen uppskattas utomlands. Twitter har också varit ett bra redskap för att sprida min blogg.
